Patriots' Matthew Judon Undergoes Surgery for Torn Biceps Tendon
Judon Injured in Week 4 Loss to Cowboys
New England Patriots pass rusher Matthew Judon is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday for a biceps injury he suffered in Sunday's 38-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Judon, 30, suffered the injury while attempting to tackle Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott in the fourth quarter.
The Patriots announced the news of Judon's injury on Monday, saying that he would be placed on injured reserve.
Judon Had Successful Surgery
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Judon's surgery was successful.
Schefter reports that Judon is expected to miss "a significant portion of the season," but that he could return later in the year.
Judon Key Part of Patriots Defense
Judon was a key part of the Patriots' defense last season, recording 12.5 sacks and 24 quarterback hits.
His injury is a big blow to the Patriots' defense, which is already dealing with injuries to other key players, including cornerback Jalen Mills and safety Kyle Dugger.
Patriots Depth at Edge Rusher
Despite Judon's injury, the Patriots have some depth at the edge rusher position.
Josh Uche, Anfernee Jennings, and Ronnie Perkins are all capable of playing outside linebacker.
The Patriots could also look to add another edge rusher via trade or free agency.
Judon's Injury History
Judon has a history of injuries, having missed 10 games in 2021 with an ankle injury.
However, he has been relatively healthy throughout his career, playing in at least 15 games in each of his first seven seasons.
Outlook for Patriots
The Patriots are now 1-3 on the season and face a tough road ahead.
They will need to find a way to replace Judon's production on the field, and they will also need to stay healthy if they want to compete for a playoff spot.
